MOVIES for FOODIES

Babette’s Feast

For those who like strange foreign films. This is a great movie about a French woman living a long way from home with a bunch extremely austere Danish people. She wins the lottery and decides to spend every penny on cooking one meal.

Ratatouille

With dreams of becoming a chef, a culinary genius in the form of a rat, makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famed restaurant.

Bottle Shock

The story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous, blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as “Judgment of Paris”.

 Like Water for Chocolate

The novel follows the story of a young girl named Tita who longs her entire life to marry her lover, Pedro, but can never have him because of her mother’s upholding of the family tradition of the youngest daughter not marrying but taking care of her mother until the day she dies. Tita is only able to express herself when she cooks. I couldn’t find a proper trailer so here is a clip from the movie.

 Sideways

Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment, embark on a week long road trip through California’s wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle.

Under The Tuscan Sun

While on vacation, a just-divorced writer buys a villa in Tuscany on a whim, hoping it will be the start of a change for the better in her life. All movies about Italy make me want to cook.
